RUDY SCHIEDER
PRODUCER. CINEMATOGRAPHER. VIDEO DIRECTOR.
Raised in front of the glowing tubes of 90s television, I have always been mesmerized by storytelling devices. When I was 5 I would build guitars out of rubber bands and tissue boxes. Attending my first concert, I spent half the show watching the moving head lights whirl. My focus has always drifted to the story, where it’s going, and the meticulous people behind the scenes making it all come to life.
I started developing my producing tendencies in the third grade. Recruiting classmates in my rubber band band with contracts promising world tours. Finally, in middle school I was able to put together a proper band. With this, I found myself in an environment of friendship, creativity and exploration. A crucial dynamic in my life that I have sought to recreate time and time again.
I quickly found that all artists need good marketing and so I used the family handycam to start shooting MySpace video updates for the band. As the years went by I got more and more into the video side of things, leading me to eventually trade guitar pedals for a DSLR and study Television Production at Columbia College Chicago.
In college I had the experience to work in world class tv control rooms and broadcast trucks. While I loved the adrenaline of live production, I did not feel fulfilled in my desires to craft extraordinary imagery. So, I switched to the cinematography program and have since spent a majority of my focus and time as a freelance Director of Photography.
As the COVID-19 pandemic brought devastation to lives and livelihoods, I found myself needing to adapt again. Using all of my production skills together, I found consistent work in remote productions. Eventually allowing me to design and build my own video flypack. Within a couple of years and iterations, my flypack and I have gone on to stream, switch and record shows for artists such as Kanye West, Chance the Rapper and festivals such as Summer Smash and Riot Fest.
As the years go by and I continue to grow, I draw from my vast experiences to create from a position of awareness. Where are we, where are we going, how do we get there, and what happens if the wheels fall off?
With passion, collaboration and timing, anything is possible.
